Physical Therapy for Back & Neck Pain
Whether it flared up overnight or has nagged for years, back and neck pain is one of the most common reasons people come to ProKinetics — and one of the most treatable with the right hands-on plan.
Understanding back and neck pain
Your spine is built to move, so when the muscles, joints, discs or nerves along it get irritated, everyday things — sitting at a desk, turning to check a blind spot, picking up a child — can suddenly hurt.
Most back and neck pain is not dangerous and responds well to the right movement and hands-on care. The goal is not just to quiet the pain today, but to fix what set it off so it does not keep coming back.
Signs it is time to get it looked at
Everyone stiffens up now and then, but a few patterns are worth an evaluation:
Pain that lingers
An ache or stiffness that has stuck around for more than a week or two, or keeps returning.
Stiff mornings
Waking up tight and needing a long time to loosen before you feel normal.
Pain that travels
Discomfort that spreads into the shoulder, arm, hip or leg rather than staying in one spot.
Headaches from the neck
Tension headaches that start at the base of the skull after long hours at a screen.
Movement that hurts
Sharp catches when you bend, twist, look up or sit for a while.
Pain after an injury
Soreness that has not settled after a fall, a car accident or heavy lifting.
What tends to cause it
Back and neck pain usually builds from a mix of load, posture and time rather than one dramatic moment:
- Long hours at a desk or on the phone with a forward-head, rounded posture
- Muscle strains from lifting, twisting or overdoing a task
- Irritated, bulging or herniated discs pressing on nearby tissue or nerves
- A weak core and mid-back that leave the spine doing too much of the work
- Age-related wear and arthritic changes in the spinal joints
- Old injuries or surgeries that changed how you move and hold yourself
Back and neck problems we treat
At our Bensonhurst and Chelsea clinics we regularly help people with:
- Lower-back pain and muscle strains
- Neck pain, stiffness and tension headaches
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Sciatica and nerve pain that runs into the leg
- “Tech neck” and posture-related pain from desk work
- Whiplash and pain that lingers after an accident or surgery
How we treat back and neck pain at ProKinetics
There is no one-size-fits-all fix for the spine, so we do not use one. Your care is built around what your evaluation shows.
A full-hour, one-on-one evaluation
Your first visit is a proper assessment with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who watches how you move and pinpoints what is actually driving your back and neck pain — not just where it hurts.
Hands-on treatment to calm symptoms
Skilled manual therapy — joint mobilization and soft-tissue work — eases pain and frees up movement so the area starts to feel like yours again.
Targeted exercise that rebuilds
We coach you through progressive, specific movement that restores the strength, mobility and control that keep back and neck pain from returning.
A plan that makes relief last
You leave with a clear home program and practical guidance on posture, activity and daily habits, and we measure your progress and adjust as you improve.
Recovering before or after spine surgery
If surgery is on the table, getting stronger and moving well beforehand can make recovery smoother — and structured rehab afterward helps you rebuild safely and return to normal life on schedule. We work alongside your surgeon at every stage.
This page is general education, not a diagnosis. If your pain is severe, follows a serious injury, or comes with numbness, weakness, or loss of bladder or bowel control, seek medical care right away.
Why patients choose ProKinetics
One therapist, one hour, every visit
